At Machakos Town Technical and Vocational College, our Department of Agriculture and Environmental Studies has taken a massive leap forward by officially integrating high-yield small ruminant production units into our practical training infrastructure. 🏛️🚀
The department celebrated the successful acquisition and handover of two purebred Galla Goats and two elite Dorper Sheep straight to our trainers and trainees!

These specific breeds weren’t chosen by accident. Both the Dorper sheep (renowned for rapid weight gain and exceptional carcass qualities) and the Galla goat (the “milk queen of the ASALs,” celebrated for high heat tolerance and superior growth rates) serve as the perfect commercial models for modern, profitable livestock enterprises.
With our state-of-the-art livestock housing structures now fully complete, our trainees are taking charge of these production tracks to master:
- ✅ Advanced Housing & Biosecurity: Constructing and maintaining raised, well-ventilated pens engineered to prevent structural disease vector accumulation. 🏡🦠
