On June 19th, Machakos Town Technical and Vocational College proudly participated in the TVET@100 celebrations, marking a century of transformative technical and vocational education in Kenya. This event, part of a series of celebrations across the country, highlights the pivotal role TVET institutions have played in shaping Kenya’s workforce and driving industrialization.
During the celebrations, the Principal Secretary for the State Department for TVET, Esther Thaara Muoria, emphasized the government’s commitment to leveraging the TVET@100 platform to outline key priorities for the sector. The TVET centenary, which culminates on July 31 at the Kabete National Polytechnic, is a crucial opportunity to showcase the sector’s achievements and address ongoing challenges, including low awareness and perceptions of TVET programs.
The event also featured the TVET torch roadshow, travelling across Kenya’s 47 counties to spread awareness, challenge the misconception that TVET is only for academic failures, and promote employability and entrepreneurship. The celebrations align with the theme, “If education is the key to employability, TVET is the master key,” underscoring TVET’s vital role in equipping youth and adults with the skills needed for sustainable livelihoods.
As part of the TVET community, Machakos Town Technical and Vocational College is proud to contribute to this legacy of excellence and innovation in technical education. We remain committed to empowering our students with the skills, knowledge, and opportunities to succeed in today’s competitive job market. Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to celebrate and promote the values of TVET!
