🗓️ July 9, 2026
The trajectory of technical education in Kenya is moving toward greater industrial alignment, economic productivity, and institutional self-reliance. The Principal and Chairperson of the Board of Governors of Machakos Town Technical and Vocational College joined fellow institutional leaders at the National Leadership Forum, convened by the Cabinet Secretary for Education, Hon. Julius Migos Ogamba, alongside the Principal Secretary for the State Department for TVET, Dr. Esther Muoria, PhD.
The high-level consultative session laid out clear operational directives designed to position TVET colleges as central pillars of Kenya’s industrial transformation.
📋 Key Directives from the Ministerial Forum
- Value-Chain Flagship Enterprises: TVET institutions have been charged to transition their training workshops, science laboratories, and agricultural plots into active commercial production hubs that plug directly into local and regional economic value chains.
- Cultivating an Industrial Mindset: The Ministry mandated an aggressive acceleration of Dual TVET training, robust public-private industry partnerships, technical innovation, and the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) framework to formalize informal workforce competencies.
- Enhanced Employability Outcomes: Institutional leadership must continually optimize training resources to ensure the Competency-Based Education and Training (CBET) curriculum translates directly into certified, highly competitive, and immediately employable graduates.
- Digital Acceleration & Self-Reliance: Prioritizing campus digitization, technology integration, and sustainable Income Generating Activities (IGAs) to build resilient, self-funding technical institutions.
The Cabinet Secretary commended TVET institutions across the country for their rising national profile and critical contributions to workforce development. Machakos Town TVC remains fully dedicated to upholding strict governance standards, operational integrity, and instructional innovation to drive Kenya’s industrialization agenda forward.
